Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine

Traditional Chinese herbs are meant to help heal the body and therefore are rarely taken over a long period of time (as in years).  There are some tonifying formulas that can be taken over time to help build up specific organs or to replenish the body. The pills usually require taking them a few times a day.  They are simply in your system when you take them and then out within hours. They tend to work best when taken consistently because they do not have a slow release effect.

Herbal medicine comes in many forms.  Mostly used in this office are herbal tea pills.  They are pills made directly from the herbal tea formulas.  I also carry some loose bulk herbs to boil as a tea or to add to regular food recipes.  I sometimes prescribe herbal soaks that are usually prepared by the patient.  Occasionally I provide herbal patches to be worn locally for temporary relief of pain.

All herbs in any form prescribed for the patient should only be used by the patient.
